Brazilian Butt Lift: Your "BBL Near Me" Search, Answered

If you searched "BBL near me," you are looking for a surgeon and a facility you can trust with a procedure that demands both. Here is what we want you to know before you book a consultation.

What a Brazilian butt lift actually is

A Brazilian butt lift moves your own fat from one part of your body to your buttocks. Fat is removed from donor areas — commonly the belly, flanks, or waist — with liposuction through small incisions. That fat is then cleaned, filtered, and carefully placed into the buttocks to add shape and volume. Because the material is your own tissue, the result looks and feels natural.

Not all of the transferred fat survives. Some is reabsorbed by the body in the weeks after surgery. The size you see on the operating table will settle smaller. The lasting result typically shows after three to six months, once swelling has cleared and the surviving fat is stable.

This is a real surgery with real risks. We ask every patient to read the risk list before a consultation — not after. Informed patients make better decisions, and better decisions lead to better outcomes.

The safety rule that changed this surgery

The most serious risk of a BBL is fat embolism — fat entering a vein and traveling to the lungs. This can be fatal. Research showed that the deaths associated with this procedure occurred when fat was injected into or through the gluteal muscle, where large veins sit. That finding changed the national standard of care.

At Tulsa Surgical Arts, fat is placed only in the layer just under the skin. It is never injected into the muscle. This is the national safety rule, and it is our rule. We perform this procedure in our AAAHC-accredited surgery center, where the same standards that govern hospital operating rooms apply to every case. A private overnight guest suite is available when the surgical team recommends post-operative monitoring or when patients are traveling in for care.

What recovery honestly looks like

The first two weeks require the most discipline. You cannot sit directly on your buttocks. When you must sit, a special pillow goes under your thighs to keep pressure off the grafted fat. You sleep on your stomach or side. The liposuction areas will be bruised and sore, and walking every few hours is important for circulation.

By two weeks, careful sitting with the pillow is permitted, and many patients return to desk work. By six weeks, most patients resume normal sitting and full exercise. The three-to-six-month mark is when swelling clears and the surviving fat is stable. That is your result. Patients coming from nearby communities — Broken Arrow is about five miles away, for example — find follow-up visits straightforward.

In any emergency — chest pain, shortness of breath, sudden confusion, or one leg swelling more than the other — call 911 first. Do not drive yourself. Do not wait. These symptoms can signal a blood clot or fat embolism and require immediate emergency care.

What "near me" should really mean

When you search for a BBL near you, proximity matters less than the facility, the safety protocol, and the surgical team's experience with body contouring. An accredited surgery center, a clear fat-placement protocol that stays above the muscle, and a team that walks you through every risk in person — those are the things worth driving for.

At Tulsa Surgical Arts, our surgeons practice in an AAAHC-accredited center that is also home to the AACS-certified cosmetic surgery fellowship, where the next generation of cosmetic surgeons trains under direct supervision. That teaching environment keeps technique current and standards high. Dr. Cuzalina has co-chaired the Body Procedures Cadaver Workshop at the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, reflecting the practice's commitment to advancing safe technique in body contouring.

We encourage you to compare. Ask any surgeon you consult where the fat is placed, what accreditation the facility holds, and what happens if you need help at two in the morning. The answers will tell you more than a search radius ever could.

Your next step

A consultation is a conversation, not a commitment. We review your anatomy, discuss your goals, and explain exactly what this surgery can and cannot do for you. We go over every risk on the list — in person, in plain language. You leave with the information you need to make a decision that is right for you. To schedule, call 918-392-7900, text us, or book online. Consult a qualified surgeon before making any surgical decision.

Questions

Asked in real consults.

How long does a BBL result last?
The fat that survives the transfer — typically assessed at three to six months — is living tissue and behaves like fat elsewhere in your body. It can grow or shrink with weight changes. Not all transferred fat survives; the final volume will be smaller than what you see on surgery day. Results vary from patient to patient. Consult a qualified surgeon for individual expectations.
Why can't I sit after a BBL?
Direct pressure on the buttocks can compress the newly transferred fat and reduce how much survives. For the first two weeks, you sit on a special pillow that shifts your weight to your thighs. By six weeks, most patients resume normal sitting. Your surgical team will give you specific instructions.
What makes a BBL dangerous, and how is that risk reduced?
The most serious risk is fat embolism — fat entering a vein and reaching the lungs. Deaths from this procedure were linked to fat injected into the gluteal muscle. The national safety rule, and our rule, is to place fat only in the layer just under the skin, above the muscle. No surgery is risk-free. In any emergency, call 911 first.
Can I travel home the same day after a BBL?
After anesthesia, a responsible adult must drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours. If you are traveling in for surgery, ask about the private overnight guest suite when you schedule. Your surgical team will advise whether same-day travel is appropriate for your case.
