Breast Implants in Tulsa: The Surgeon's Honest Answers

Breast augmentation is one of the most personal decisions a patient can make. Here is what we want you to understand before your consultation — implant choices, how the surgery works, what recovery looks like, and the risks we discuss with every patient.

What breast augmentation actually does

Breast augmentation adds size and shape to the breasts with implants. An implant is a soft shell filled with either salt water or silicone gel. It sits behind the breast tissue or behind the chest muscle. The choice between those two positions depends on your anatomy and the goals you and your surgeon define together at your visit.

This is not a one-size procedure. We size the implant to your frame — your chest width, your tissue thickness, your proportions. The decision is made with you, not for you. That conversation is the most important part of the consultation.

We perform breast augmentation in our AAAHC-accredited surgery center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The facility includes a private overnight guest suite for patients who are traveling in or who simply prefer close-proximity recovery after surgery.

How the surgery works, step by step

The procedure begins with anesthesia to keep you comfortable throughout. Your surgeon then places the incision, most commonly within the natural fold beneath the breast, with attention to keeping the resulting scar as discreet as possible. A precise pocket is created for the implant — either beneath the breast tissue or beneath the chest muscle, depending on your surgical plan.

The selected implant is carefully positioned, and your surgeon evaluates its placement, symmetry, and overall proportion before closing. Incisions are closed in layers, typically using dissolvable sutures, to support proper healing and a refined result. Breast augmentation is typically an outpatient procedure, so you return home the same day with detailed recovery instructions.

A responsible adult must drive you home and stay with you for the first twenty-four hours after anesthesia. That is a firm rule, not a suggestion.

The honest risk list

Every surgery has risks. We go over all of them with you in person, but here are the main ones in plain words. A firm scar shell can form around the implant — called capsular contracture. It can change the shape and it can hurt. Surgery can fix it. An implant can leak or break over time. Broken implants are replaced or removed.

Nipple feeling can change. It may increase, decrease, or go away. Breastfeeding may be affected for some women. A very rare cancer of the scar tissue around some implants has been reported — ask us about it at your visit. Some patients report body-wide symptoms they link to their implants. We discuss all of this openly because informed patients make better decisions.

One more thing people often overlook: implants do not last a lifetime. Plan on more surgery someday. That reality belongs in your decision-making from the start.

Choosing a surgeon in Tulsa

Tulsa Surgical Arts is the practice behind the AACS-certified cosmetic surgery fellowship — a nationally recognized program dedicated to training the next generation of cosmetic surgeons. We also serve patients from nearby communities. Broken Arrow, for example, is about five miles from the practice. Whether you are local or traveling from farther away, the consultation process is the same: an unhurried visit where we listen, examine, measure, and plan together.

If you would like to see real breast augmentation results from our surgeons, our patient gallery is available on the website. Individual results vary, and your outcome will depend on your unique anatomy and surgical plan.
