Mommy Makeover for Oklahoma City Patients, Explained

A mommy makeover is not one set surgery. It is a custom plan built around the changes pregnancy left behind — and patients from across Oklahoma, including the Oklahoma City area, travel to our Tulsa practice for it.

What a mommy makeover actually is

The name sounds casual. The surgery is not. A mommy makeover is a combination of procedures that address changes to the breasts and abdomen after pregnancy and breastfeeding. Common components include a tummy tuck, breast surgery — a lift, implants, or both — and liposuction. No two plans look the same because no two patients carry the same changes.

Combining procedures means one anesthesia event and one recovery instead of two or three separate ones. That matters for patients who have limited time away from work or from caring for children. It also means the surgeon can plan the breast and the abdomen as a single composition, balancing proportions across the whole torso.

If the combined plan would push operating time beyond a safe threshold, we split the work into two staged surgeries. Safety sets the schedule, not convenience.

Why Oklahoma City patients travel to Tulsa

Oklahoma City is roughly a ninety-minute drive east on the turnpike. Patients from that area — and from communities much farther — come to Tulsa Surgical Arts because the practice was built around combined-procedure surgery. Our AAAHC-accredited surgery center includes a private overnight guest suite for patients who travel in and need monitored rest before the drive home.

Tulsa Surgical Arts is the practice behind the AACS-certified cosmetic surgery fellowship, a nationally recognized training program dedicated to the next generation of cosmetic surgeons. That teaching environment keeps technique current and standards visible. Every mommy makeover is performed by an attending surgeon, not a trainee working alone.

A consultation can be scheduled by phone at 918-392-7900 or booked online. We ask that you bring a photo ID, your paperwork, and a written list of every medication and supplement you take.

What happens in the operating room and the weeks after

You receive general anesthesia. The surgical team works in a planned order — usually breast first, then abdomen. Each component follows the same steps it would as a standalone procedure. Incisions are closed in layers. Compression garments and a surgical bra are placed before you leave the table. Some patients stay one night for monitoring in our guest suite.

The tummy tuck portion leads the recovery. Expect to walk bent over for the first several days. A responsible adult must drive you home and stay with you for the first twenty-four hours — no exceptions. Real help at home for the first week is not optional. Most patients describe steady improvement week over week, with a meaningful turn around the six-to-eight-week mark.

Our patient gallery shows real mommy makeover results at various post-operative time points. Individual results vary. Seeing a range of outcomes helps set honest expectations before your consultation.

Risks you should read before your consult

Every surgery carries risk, and combining procedures adds specific considerations. Longer operating time raises the risk of blood clots in the legs. A clot can travel to the lungs — that is an emergency. If you experience sudden chest pain, shortness of breath, or leg swelling after surgery, call 911 immediately. Early walking after surgery is your best protection against clots.

Other risks include bleeding that may require a return to the operating room, infection — watch for spreading redness, warmth, pus, or fever — fluid buildup, slow-healing spots, and scarring. Every incision leaves a scar. Most fade over a year, but some remain raised or wide. Numbness near incision sites is common; feeling usually returns over months, though small areas can stay numb.

Uneven results are possible. The two sides of the body are never a perfect mirror. A touch-up surgery may be needed to refine a result or address a complication. We review every one of these risks with you in person before you make a decision.

The next step: your consultation

A mommy makeover begins with a conversation, not a commitment. During your consultation a surgeon examines the specific changes pregnancy left, listens to what bothers you most, and builds a plan — or explains why a staged approach is safer. You leave with a clear picture of what surgery can and cannot do for your body.

Questions

Asked in real consults.

Is a mommy makeover one surgery or multiple surgeries?
It is a custom combination of procedures — typically a tummy tuck, breast surgery, and liposuction — performed during one anesthesia event and one recovery. If the combined plan would run too long, we split it into two safer stages. The exact components depend on your anatomy and goals. Consult a qualified surgeon for a personalized plan.
How long is recovery from a mommy makeover?
The tummy tuck portion leads the recovery. You will walk bent over for the first several days and need real help at home for the first week. Most patients notice meaningful improvement around six to eight weeks. Individual results and recovery timelines vary. Your surgeon will give you specific guidance.
Can I travel from Oklahoma City for a mommy makeover in Tulsa?
Yes. Many patients drive from the Oklahoma City area. Our AAAHC-accredited surgery center includes a private overnight guest suite for patients who travel in. A responsible adult must drive you home and stay with you for the first twenty-four hours after anesthesia. Ask the consult team about the suite when you schedule.
What are the biggest risks of a mommy makeover?
Longer combined surgery raises the risk of blood clots, which can be life-threatening if a clot reaches the lungs. Other risks include bleeding, infection, fluid buildup, scarring, numbness, uneven results, and the possible need for revision surgery. We review every risk in detail during your consultation.
