Mommy Makeover in Tulsa: The Surgeon's Honest Answers
A mommy makeover is not one operation. It is a custom plan that addresses the breast and abdomen together — one anesthesia, one recovery, one coordinated result.

What a mommy makeover actually is
The name sounds casual, but the surgery is real. A mommy makeover is a combination of procedures designed to treat changes that follow pregnancy and breastfeeding. There is no single fixed menu. The plan is built around what your body needs, and that plan is different for every patient who walks through our door.
Common components include a tummy tuck, breast surgery — a lift, implants, or both — and liposuction. Combining them means you go under anesthesia once and recover once, rather than spacing out multiple separate operations over months or years.
At Tulsa Surgical Arts we perform these procedures in our AAAHC-accredited surgery center. Some patients stay overnight in our private guest suite for monitoring. The goal is always safety first, then the best result the anatomy allows.
How the surgery works, step by step
You receive general anesthesia — medicine that puts you fully to sleep. The surgical team works in a planned order, typically addressing the breast first and then the abdomen. Each component follows the same careful technique it would receive as a standalone procedure. Nothing is rushed because it is bundled.
We cap total operating time for safety. If a combined plan would run too long, we split it into two staged surgeries rather than push through in a single session. The incisions are closed in layers. Compression garments and a surgical bra are placed before you leave the operating room.
Total time in the OR depends on the specific plan. Your consultation is where we map out exactly which procedures are included, the order they happen in, and whether staging makes sense for you.
Recovery, honestly
The tummy tuck component leads the recovery. For the first several days you walk bent forward. You need a responsible adult to drive you home after anesthesia and stay with you for the first twenty-four hours — no exceptions. Real help at home for the first week is not optional. It is a requirement.
Because this is a bigger single recovery than any one procedure alone, the early days ask more of you. Fluid buildup, slow-healing spots, and temporary numbness near incisions are all possible. Feeling usually returns over months, though small areas can stay numb. Most scars fade significantly over a year.
Early walking is your best protection against blood clots. A clot that travels to the lungs is a medical emergency — if you experience sudden chest pain or difficulty breathing, call 911 immediately. We review every risk with you in person before surgery.
The honest risk list
Every surgery carries risk, and a combined surgery carries the risks of each included procedure. Longer time under anesthesia raises the chance of blood clots. Bleeding can occasionally require a return to the operating room. Signs of infection — spreading redness, warmth, pus, or fever — need prompt attention.
Scars are a certainty. Every incision leaves one. Most improve over twelve months, but some remain raised or wide. The two sides of the body are never a perfect mirror of each other, and there is always a possibility that a second procedure may be needed to refine the result.
We go over all of this with you at your consultation. Understanding the risks is part of making a genuinely informed decision. We would rather you know too much than too little.
Why patients near Tulsa choose a combined plan
One anesthesia event instead of two or three. One block of downtime instead of stacking separate recoveries across a year. One coordinated surgical plan where the breast and abdomen are designed together so proportions make sense as a whole. Those are the practical reasons patients choose a mommy makeover over sequential standalone surgeries.
Our practice sits in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and we see patients from across the region — including communities like Broken Arrow, about five miles away — as well as patients who travel from across the country. Traveling patients can use our private overnight guest suite; ask the consult team when you schedule.
The right starting point is a consultation. We examine you, listen to your goals, and build a plan that fits your anatomy and your life. Consult a qualified surgeon before making any surgical decision.
