Mommy Makeover in Tulsa: What the Surgery Actually Involves

A mommy makeover is not one fixed operation. It is a plan built around the specific changes pregnancy left behind — your anatomy, your goals, one surgery.

What a mommy makeover actually is

The name sounds casual. The surgery is not. A mommy makeover is a combination of procedures designed to address the changes pregnancy and breastfeeding leave in the breasts and abdomen. There is no single template. Every plan is different because every body is different.

The most common components are a tummy tuck, breast surgery — a lift, implants, or both — and liposuction. Combining them means one trip to the operating room, one round of anesthesia, and one recovery period instead of two or three separate ones.

At Tulsa Surgical Arts we perform these procedures in our AAAHC-accredited surgery center, which includes a private overnight guest suite for patients who benefit from monitored rest after a longer combined case.

How the surgery works, step by step

You receive general anesthesia — medicine that keeps you asleep and comfortable throughout. The surgical team works in a planned sequence, typically addressing the breasts first and then the abdomen. Each component follows the same careful technique it would receive as a standalone procedure.

Total operating time depends on the plan. We cap surgery length for safety. If the combined procedure would run too long, we split it into two staged operations rather than push a single session beyond what is safe. The incisions are closed in layers. Compression garments and a surgical bra are placed before you leave the operating room.

Some patients stay overnight in our guest suite for monitoring. Others go home the same day with a responsible adult driver — you may not drive yourself, take a rideshare alone, or leave unaccompanied after anesthesia.

Recovery, honestly

The tummy tuck component leads the recovery. For the first several days you walk bent forward to protect the abdominal repair. You need real help at home for the first week — this is not optional. Someone must be present to assist with meals, medications, drains if placed, and basic movement.

Early walking is your best protection against blood clots, which are a real risk with longer combined surgery. A clot that travels to the lungs is a medical emergency — if you experience sudden chest pain or difficulty breathing, call 911 immediately.

Most patients see meaningful improvement by six to eight weeks, though final results continue to refine over months. Scars fade over the first year. Some stay raised or wide. Numbness near incision lines usually returns gradually, but small areas can remain permanently numb. We review all of this with you in person before you decide.

The risks you should read before your consultation

Every surgery carries risk. A mommy makeover carries the risks of each included procedure plus additional considerations from the longer combined operating time. The honest list includes bleeding that may require a return to the operating room, infection, fluid buildup, slow-healing areas, uneven results, and the possibility of a revision surgery.

The two sides of the body are never a perfect mirror image. Anesthesia complications, while rare in healthy patients, exist. We go over every risk with you in detail during your consultation — not to frighten you, but because informed patients make better decisions and recover with less anxiety.

Our patient gallery shows real mommy makeover results so you can see the range of outcomes. Individual results vary. We encourage you to review those cases before your visit.

Questions

Asked in real consults.

Is a mommy makeover one surgery or multiple surgeries?
It is a customized combination performed in one session when safe. Common components include a tummy tuck, breast lift or augmentation, and liposuction. If the combined plan would run too long, we split it into two staged procedures to keep operating time within safe limits.
How long is recovery from a mommy makeover?
The tummy tuck portion drives most of the recovery. You need help at home for the first week. Most patients see meaningful improvement by six to eight weeks. Final results continue to refine over several months. Early walking is essential to reduce the risk of blood clots.
