Why patients traveling from Brazil choose a US cosmetic surgery practice
Choosing to travel abroad for surgery is a serious decision. International patients often seek a practice that combines high surgical volume, facility accreditation, and a team experienced in complex and revision work. Those are reasonable criteria. They are also the criteria we hold ourselves to every day at Tulsa Surgical Arts.
Our AAAHC-accredited surgery center in Tulsa, Oklahoma is led by Dr. Angelo Cuzalina, a past president of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and a past president of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. The practice focus spans rhinoplasty, deep plane facelift, complex revision surgery, and total-body contouring. Our team of six cosmetic surgeons works from a single facility built around safety and precision.
Our nationally recognized cosmetic surgery fellowship trains the next generation of surgeons here. That teaching culture means every technique is examined, refined, and held to evidence. It shapes the care every patient receives, whether they live nearby or travel from Brazil.
How the consultation works for international patients
Every surgical plan begins with a consultation. During this visit you meet your surgeon, discuss your goals, review your anatomy, and receive a candid assessment of what surgery can and cannot accomplish. There is no shortcut for this step. A thorough evaluation protects you and gives your surgeon the information needed to build a safe, individualized plan.
For patients traveling from Brazil, our consult team can help coordinate timing so you make the most of your trip. The consultation is a conversation, not a commitment. You will leave with a clear understanding of the procedure, the recovery timeline, and what to expect. If surgery is not the right path, we will tell you directly.
Our facility and your safety
Tulsa Surgical Arts operates from an AAAHC-accredited surgery center. AAAHC accreditation is the same standard used by many ambulatory surgical facilities nationwide. It requires documented protocols for patient safety, infection control, anesthesia, and emergency preparedness. For a patient who has traveled a long distance, that infrastructure matters.
The facility includes a private overnight guest suite. After anesthesia, a responsible adult must stay with you for the first twenty-four hours. The guest suite exists for exactly this situation. Ask the consult team about it when you schedule. Our address is 7322 E 91st St, Tulsa, OK 74133. The phone number is 918-392-7900, and text messages are welcome.
Dr. Cuzalina has performed over 18,000 procedures. He holds the SRC Master Surgeon designation in Specialized Cosmetic Surgery for both Face & Neck and Trunk, Breast & Extremities. That volume and scope of experience is part of why patients travel to this practice.
What to expect on surgery day and during recovery
You arrive at the time confirmed by the surgical team. After check-in and pre-operative preparation, you have a final review with your surgeon and anesthesia provider. You wake in recovery under one-to-one observation, then discharge to your driver or upstairs to the guest suite when that is the plan.
After anesthesia you may not drive yourself, take a rideshare alone, or leave unaccompanied. A responsible adult drives you and stays with you for the first twenty-four hours. Your surgical team provides detailed post-operative instructions. When any instruction differs from general guidance you have read, the surgical team's directions take priority.
Recovery timelines depend on the procedure. Your surgeon will outline a realistic schedule during your consultation so you can plan accordingly. We encourage patients traveling from Brazil to discuss recovery logistics early in the planning process. Results vary from patient to patient, and your surgeon will set honest expectations.
