You’ve probably seen traditional hourglass shapes on the women in billboards and popular magazines. While diet and exercise can tone your middle, it can be difficult to achieve this figure if you have a flat bottom half. Butt enhancement surgery through medical-grade implants or a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) can increase the size of your buttocks and make you feel better about your shape.

So, what is a Brazilian butt lift, and how does this procedure compare with butt implants? A Brazilian butt lift in Tulsa actually uses fat from another area of your body. So you could slim down your abdomen or thighs while enhancing your bottom! It’s no wonder so many people choose this cosmetic treatment over other options.

If you are interested in the benefits of a BBL, reach out to Tulsa Surgical Arts for a private appointment. Board-certified cosmetic surgeon Dr. Angelo Cuzalina can meet with you and compare both procedures in person.

Why do I need butt enhancement surgery?

Our overall skin quality changes by the time we reach our early 40s and 50s. Loose or wrinkled skin can appear on our backsides and create a sagging appearance. Factors like genetics, sun exposure, and smoking also affect our skin elasticity. When a flat, shapeless, or hanging backside makes you feel self-conscious about your appearance, aesthetic treatments, like butt enhancement, can transform your look and make you feel young again.

What is a Brazilian butt lift?

So, what is a Brazilian butt lift? As we mentioned, a BBL uses your own natural fat to add fullness and volume. The fat is usually taken from the lower back, upper thighs, stomach, or flanks. It is then purified before being re-injected into the buttocks. During your consultation at Tulsa Surgical Arts, we can review the process in full with you.

A Brazilian butt lift in Tulsa is a great alternative to butt implants. This is because implants require more invasive techniques and longer downtime. BBL injection sites are nearly invisible, and recovery is typically similar to that of liposuction alone. However, following a BBL(fat grafting to the buttock) you will need need to keep weight off your buttock for the first 1-2 weeks as much as possible.  Temporary pressure is ok but avoiding prolonged heavy pressure directly to the fat grafted areas will improve the final results.  Dr. Cuzalina or one of our specialists will make sure you have enough fat in certain areas before recommending treatment and with give you detailed but easy instructions for post operative care.

Which treatment should I choose?

The 'bottom line', If you have enough extra fat, most people choose fat grafting via a BBL; however, if there is limited extra fat then a gluteal implant may be required to give the roundness or overall fullness of the buttock desired.  Dr. Cuzalina lectures and performs these procedures routinely and can help you select the best procedure for each individual.  Both forms of butt enhancement surgery are great ways to improve your overall silhouette. However, not everyone is interested in getting implants. Some are intimidated by having foreign material in their bodies. More than that, implants require slightly larger incisions and typically a longer recovery. Fat is placed 'above gluteal muscles whereas gluteal implants are place below or within the Gluteus Maximus muscle. The muscle involvement for implants creates more soreness comparatively in the gluteal region for implants. That said, Dr. Cuzalina now uses an injection of medicine that 'numbs' or anesthetizes most of the area around an implant for up to 3 days post operatively to greatly decrease discomfort of implants compared to previous techniques. During your assessment with Dr. Cuzalina, we work hard to understand your cosmetic goals and make recommendations based on your needs. If we believe you could benefit from a BBL over implants, we can educate you about the process and how to safely move forward.
