What Is A Breast Revision Surgery?
Breast augmentation with implants is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the United States, and most of the time, it offers beautiful and natural results. However, sometimes a patient can feel unhappy with the appearance of their breasts and may need breast revision surgery. Keep in mind, not all revision surgeries happen because of doctor error. While some surgeries end with a negative outcome, many patients prefer a smaller or larger implant or they have a condition that requires an implant revision or removal. At Tulsa Surgical Arts in Tulsa, OK, Dr. Angelo Cuzalina can assess your condition, discuss your goals, and create a unique treatment plan.

Is Breast Revision Surgery For You?
If you have any concerns (whether cosmetic or medical) after breast augmentation surgery, please schedule a consultative appointment with Dr. Cuzalina to go over your goals and to determine your custom surgical plan. Whether it's scarring, breast drooping, ripples under the skin, or asymmetry, revision surgery can help the irregularity and create a more normal and healthy outcome. This procedure may also help if you want to alter the implant style, size, or address any other aspect of your breasts.
Common Reasons for Revision
When it comes to secondary breast augmentation, patients can experience a variety of issues that require revision or removal. We may also perform breast revision surgery to change the implant size or type. Certain types of conditions could require patients to undergo breast revision surgery, including:
- Bottoming out
- Implant size
- Capsular contracture
- Implant rippling
- Implant rupture
If you feel uncomfortable with your implants, breast revision surgery can help you live a better quality of life.
In one of our AAAHC-accredited operating rooms, we start your breast revision surgery by administering general anesthesia or IV sedation. We will discuss the options during your consultation to select the best type for you. Dr. Cuzalina begins by making an incision, which he selects based on your needs. He may use an inframammary incision, breast lift incision, or a peri-areola incision. Depending on your particular condition or concern, we may remove scar tissue, insert new implants, or adjust the position of your implants. Next, we suture your incisions closed and take you back to the recovery room.
What to Expect
After your surgery and a brief observation period, you can return home to recover. If you traveled out of town, we have an overnight guest suite so you can comfortably rest while we attend to your needs. Please let us know if you'd like to learn more about this option. Once you are back home, the recovery period will vary and will depend on the complexity of your surgery. A revision that requires any type of reconstruction or grafting will have a longer recovery period, which may last up to several months. You should slowly start to see your surgical results once the swelling starts to subside. To ensure proper healing, we will provide detailed aftercare instructions and schedule follow-up appointments.
Change Your Mind
Breast revision surgery is a customized treatment that addresses your specific needs. If you feel unhappy with your breast implants or you want a different outcome, we invite you to schedule an appointment at our Tulsa, OK office. At Tulsa Surgical Arts, Dr. Cuzalina will review your condition, perform a physical assessment, create your revision treatment plan, and set realistic expectations. Once you have your treatment plan, our staff can discuss the cost or financing. Throughout your appointment, please let us know if you have any questions.
