How Does Vein Treatment Work?
Lasting about 20 – 40 minutes, we complete laser vein removal and sclerotherapy treatments in one of our private treatment rooms. The duration of your appointment depends on the size and number of areas we treat. At the beginning of your appointment, we will ask you will relax while we clean the treatment area. If you plan on undergoing laser vein removal, we can apply a topical numbing cream to decrease any potential discomfort. Next, the handheld laser device is passed over the area so the energy can reach the spider veins through a series of pulses without affecting the surrounding tissues. The blood vessel takes in the energy of the laser, which closes the wall of the vessel. You can leave right after the treatment to resume your regular routine.
If you plan on undergoing sclerotherapy, we use a very fine needle to inject a solution directly into the vein. Usually, a salt solution is used, but Dr. Cuzalina will discuss this during your consultation. This solution will cause the lining of your vein to collapse. After your treatment, you can resume your daily activities.
What To After Following Vein Treatment
Following your laser vein removal treatment, you may experience bruising, swelling, and redness; however, these symptoms should subside within 1 – 2 weeks. For quicker healing, patients can wear support or compression garments to encourage the circulation of blood. You will want to avoid prolonged sun exposure, and you should frequently apply sunscreen to the treatment areas. Certain patients notice dramatic improvements right away, but the timing varies for each person. During your consultation with Dr. Cuzalina, he will discuss your potential results and recommend the number of follow-up treatments you may need. Over time, other spider veins will likely develop so you may need follow-up procedures later down the road.

Vein Treatments FAQs
How much do vein treatments cost?
Vein treatments are priced depending on the number of veins being treated and how many sessions are suggested for optimal results. During your initial consultation, we will evaluate your veins, the size and location, and develop your custom treatment plan to help estimate your cost. Tulsa Surgical Arts accepts several payment options and we frequently offer deals on procedures like laser vein removal.
Should I get laser vein removal or sclerotherapy?
Treatments with laser vein removal may help veins of all sizes and types. Depending on your needs, laser vein removal may work better than others depending on your goals. Laser works great for some veins; however, depending on your needs, you might prefer sclerotherapy, which treats the vein by injecting a special solution. Larger veins such as varicose veins often respond well to laser, but if the vein is large and bulging, surgery may be recommended. We will help you determine your treatment method depending on your needs and wants.
Does the vein go away?
A vein treatment will address the vein in different ways depending on your choice of treatment. With either choice, the procedure is precise and highly focused on the targeted area, so it will not affect your skin. When the vein collapses, it will take about 4 – 6 weeks for the vein to be reabsorbed and disappear.
